Join the REBA Environmental Law Committee, along with our partner and co-chair Julie Barry, for an open luncheon on May 24th featuring a presentation by Craig Blais and Roberta Brien of the Worcester Business Development Corporation, and David Foss, LSP with Wilcox & Barton, on the redevelopment of the former WT&G site.
Before the redevelopment, all aspects of daily newspaper production, including printing, typesetting and paper distribution, took place at the site. The redevelopment was completed in September of 2014, in time for the start of Quinsigamond Community College’s 2014-2015 academic year. The WT&G redevelopment is part of the Theatre District Master Plan, a multi-year effort between the City of Worcester and the WBDC, creating a 35 acre mixed-use district in Worcester’s downtown neighborhood in order to revitalize the area, establish an entertainment core, and attract investment.
In addition to learning from LSP David Foss about the environmental issues, including asbestos, lead paint, and building materials, what makes this project interesting is the complex financing mechanisms used to fund the project, including an EPA Hazardous Materials Cleanup grant and the City’s EPA Revolving Loan Fund, and a portfolio of tax credits and private financing.
Come hear WBDC President and CEO Craig Blais, and Vice President Roberta Brien, speak about the pathway to putting together the financing that was key to this core redevelopment piece, and learn about financing mechanisms that may be available for your clients who may be trying to redevelop their own Brownfield propertiesor assess whether to get involved with a Brownfields site.
This luncheon, which is open to all REBA members, will be held at noon on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 in the Presidents Conference Room at REBA, 295 Devonshire Street, Sixth Floor, in Boston.
