Prince Lobel Media Lawyers Teach Journalists at Annual New England Press Convention

Attorneys from Prince Lobel’s Media and Intellectual Property Group led programs on access, public records, libel, employment, and copyright law at the New England Press Association’s annual convention on February 10 and 11 in Boston.  Rob Bertsche discussed trends in electronic access to public records in the six New England states.  Rob also joined Rick Blum, director of the Washington, D.C. based organization, in a presentation on “Sunshine, Secrecy and Public/Private Partnerships.”

The weekend was capped by a three-hour “Media Law Hotline: Interactive Question and Answer,” a live-and-in-person version of the legal hotline service that Prince Lobel provides as a member benefit to the 450-plus newspapers that form the New England Press Association (NEPA).  Hotline lawyers Paige A. Scott Reed and Rob Bertsche discussed the latest trends, and fielded a wide array of questions on the topics of libel, privacy, newsgathering, confidential sources, access, public records, media employment and labor law, copyright, internet law, advertising, and sweepstakes.

At the convention’s annual awards banquet, Boston’s Weekly Dig – a Prince Lobel client – won awards for best design of an alternative weekly and best article on transportation/commuter issues (Paul McMorrow), as well as a second-place for coverage of a racial or ethnic issue (Paul McMorrow).
