In Memoriam: Joseph L. Edwards, Jr.

April 10, 2024

Prince Lobel Tye mourns the loss of Joseph L. Edwards, Jr., Prince Lobel’s Chief Diversity Officer and a member of the firm’s Employment Law and Internal Investigations Practice Groups.

Joe will be remembered as a loyal friend, a smart and accomplished lawyer, and a loving father and husband. He was a skilled employment lawyer who always advocated for his clients. Our firm will miss his kindness, humor, and ability to make others smile.

Managing Partner Craig Tateronis noted, “Joe made Prince Lobel a better, more convivial, and more caring workplace. To the end, he was energetically planning new DEI initiatives. I always had a smile on my face after speaking with Joe. He will be irreplaceable.”

Dan Tarlow, chair of Prince Lobel’s Employment Law Group added, “Joe was a wonderful person, who joined our firm in 2002. He was smart, easy to laugh, a good lawyer, a loyal supporter of the firm, and a terrific and dedicated friend and family man. Joe was a very good man, with a wonderful and easy-going manner.”

Joe represented employers and employees in state and federal courts and administrative agencies in a full range of employment matters, including sex, race, and handicap discrimination claims, employment contracts, severance issues, and noncompete agreements. He also provided management training as well as seminars in preventing sexual harassment in the workplace for both managers and employees. He was certified by the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination to conduct anti-discrimination and anti-harassment training.

Joe was committed to Prince Lobel’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. He served as the chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee and assisted in obtaining our Midsize Mansfield Certification. He was also recently selected as Prince Lobel’s Chief Diversity Officer.

This year, he was named as a Thomson Reuters Stand-out Lawyer and was recognized in the 2024 Edition of The Best Lawyers in America® for Litigation – Labor and Employment.

Joe earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School and earned his B.S. from Suffolk University.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Edwards family.
