February 14, 2023

NY Cannabis Insider featured a Feb. 14th guest column co-authored by Prince Lobel attorneys David Holland and Dalton Battin.  In “Six Tips for CAURD Licensees to Get Started in New York,” Dave addresses the excitement and anxiety of being the recipient of a coveted Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary license.  He notes, “Becoming the recipient of a coveted Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) license is an extraordinary opportunity that brings a sense of joy and excitement, especially if you are a justice-involved individual who has been impacted by the previous criminalization of cannabis. It can also produce extreme feelings of anxiety and uncertainty, leaving new licensees wondering what steps to take next.”

Dave then describes the process and the steps to get ready for opening.  “Having consulted and helped hundreds of cannabis establishments across New England and recently, Smacked! Village, the first for-profit and minority-owned CAURD dispensary to open in New York City, these tips may help smooth your way as you get ready for opening day,” the article begins. The tips address areas such as permits, leases, labor agreements and vendor contracts; standard operating procedures; employee in charge; hiring and onboarding; employee training manuals; and marketing and advertising regulations.
