We’re pleased to report that the new home of Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational Technical School is under construction with help from Prince Lobel. Northeast MetroTech provides public vocational education to 12 communities north of Boston in a building that dates from the 1960’s. The new building, located on the same 50-acre site, will permit Northeast MetroTech to educate hundreds of additional students in an up-to-date facility featuring the latest technology. The new school will also provide after-hours classes for adults seeking to obtain new skills such as plumbing and electrical as well as updated offerings such as renewable energy, data processing, and farm-to-table dining.
Julie Barry, Rob Schlein and Chris Campbell of Prince Lobel represented the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School District in obtaining approvals under the Wetlands Protection Act for the new building and its associated driveways, parking lots and sports fields. After the Wakefield Conservation Commission denied an Order of Conditions to permit construction of the project, Prince Lobel represented the District in its successful appeal to obtain a Superseding Order of Conditions from the Department of Environmental Protection (“DEP”) allowing the project to go forward. The grant of the Superseding Order was further appealed by a 10-citizen group to DEP’s Office of Appeal and Dispute Resolution. Prince Lobel successfully represented the District in that additional appeal, which resulted in the DEP Commissioner affirming the grant of the Superseding Order of Conditions and permitting construction to proceed.
We were pleased to represent the District in its efforts to expand quality public vocational education in the Commonwealth, and congratulate Northeast MetroTech on its beautiful and practical new facility.
