The month of June is designated as Pride Month to honor the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) community. Across the globe, events are held during this month as a way of recognizing the influence LGBTQ+ people have had on the world, emphasizing dignity, equal rights, and affirmation. Pride month in June commemorates the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City that helped catalyze the LGBTQ+ rights movement. Pride also serves an important reminder that the battle for acceptance and inclusion is far from over.
