Service Areas

Steven Weatherhead is a Partner and Co-Chair of Prince Lobel’s Employment Law Practice Group.

For the past 30 years, Steve has advised employers around the country, particularly in the life science and technology industries, on all aspects of federal and state employment law. As both a former General Counsel and Employment and Litigation Counsel for public companies, he brings a practical, business-oriented approach to workplace issues.

He routinely counsels and trains human resource and legal teams on the full spectrum of issues that arise throughout the employment life cycle, including recruiting and hiring, background checks, drafting and enforcement of restrictive covenants, policy development, wage and hour compliance, compensation structures and policies, whistleblower claims, employee privacy, performance management, leave of absence management, discrimination, harassment, workplace safety and health, terminations and reductions-in-force. Steve also advises C-Level executives (primarily in the life sciences industry) on their employment and compensation arrangements, and dozens of current life science executives have sought his counsel throughout their careers.

In addition to his employment compliance practice, Steve has significant experience litigating all types of employment claims. He has successfully represented employers in state and federal courts around the country (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Vermont), as well as before the Department of Labor Office of Administrative Law Judges, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board and the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. In addition, he has represented employers before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office (along with their counterparts in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Minnesota, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee and Texas).

Prior to joining Prince Lobel, Steve co-founded Marathas Barrow Weatherhead Lent LLP, a successful employment and benefits law boutique law firm that he co-managed for ten years. He previously was a Partner at Bello Welsh LLP and an Associate at Mintz Levin, and he has served as General Counsel of Salary. com, Inc., a leading human resource data provider, and Global Litigation and Employment Counsel for Sapient Corporation (now Publicis Groupe), a public, international consulting and advertising firm.

Prior to attending law school, Steve worked at Bath Iron Works Corporation, a naval shipbuilder in Maine, where he was responsible for drafting and negotiating domestic and international commercial contracts and coordinating the export licensing program. He also graduated from the company’s Management Development Program, as part of which he received MBA credits from the Center for Management Development at Northeastern University’s Graduate School of Business Administration in Operations Management, Marketing, Finance, Management of Technology and Organizational Behavior.
