On Wednesday, September 27, Media and First Amendment attorneys Rob Bertsche, Peter Caruso, and Katie Stone will present “Legal Briefing for Magazine Editors 2017” to the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME).
The seminar’s morning session, “Business Law for Magazine Editors,” will cover running compliant and effective social sweeps and promotions; protecting your brand and content online; FTC endorsement and promotions update; legal issues in responsive marketing; collecting and using reader information; designing mobile apps; and the effects of the new overtime rules on your relationship with employees.
The seminar’s afternoon session “Journalism Law for Magazine Editors,” will cover the legal implications of native advertising; what to watch for when using social media; guidelines for live-streaming video; navigating music rights; fact, fiction and the imperiled role of the fact-checker; the evolving definition of “fair use” in the digital context; and, of course, the latest tales from the trenches about protecting your magazine from libel and invasion of privacy claims.
