Prince Lobel partner Jeffrey Pyle was quoted in a page 1 story in today’s edition of The Boston Globe about how Massachusetts law has kept the autopsy report in the Karen Read murder trial secret, fueling speculation about the cause of death of former Boston Police officer John O’Keefe. Pyle notes that “Massachusetts has a reputation for being one of the most secretive states in the country for open records law,” and that the withholding of the autopsy report means that the public cannot properly assess the arguments of the parties or rulings of the court. “If the public cannot see the documents that judges rely on in the course of making decisions, the public cannot make decisions on whether the judge’s decisions are correct.”
