Prince Lobel is proud to share that founding partner Donald Tye was selected as a member of the 2024 Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly Hall of Fame class. Hall of Fame membership is reserved for Massachusetts attorneys who have practiced law for at least 30 years and is based on the lawyer’s career achievements, their contributions to the bar and to the growth of Massachusetts law, as well as their endeavors to improve the standard of justice in Massachusetts.
DONALD TYE is co-chair emeritus of the domestic relations group at Prince Lobel Tye LLP, in Boston. He has more than 45 years of experience as a trial attorney, guardian ad litem, master, mediator, conciliator, and attorney for children. Donald is a frequent lecturer on divorce and child-related issues at law schools and bar associations nationally.
His work has been published in the Journal of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), the ABA Family Law Quarterly, Boston Bar Journal, ABA Family Advocate, the Lawyers Journal of the Massachusetts Bar Association, and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education. Donald is the principal author of Trying Divorce Cases in Massachusetts, published by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. (MCLE), now in its seventh edition. He has prepared and argued seminal family law cases before the Massachusetts Appeals Court and Supreme Judicial Court.
Donald has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) since 1984. He assisted drafting the national AAML publication, “Representing Children: Standards for Attorneys for Children in Custody and Visitation Proceedings.” He served as president of the AAML Massachusetts chapter and is a member of its Board of Managers. Donald is also a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers.
Since 2004, Donald has been selected to the Massachusetts Super Lawyers list, and was one of the “Top 100 Lawyers in Massachusetts” in many of those years.
Donald served as a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission appointed by Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts. He was a Hearing Officer with the Board of Bar Overseers for six years. He has been Education Chair of Massachusetts Guardian Ad Litem, Inc. for the past four years and is on its Board of Directors. He was a member of the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court statewide taskforce, Voice of the Child, and is a member of the Texas Supreme Court’s Standards of Representation Commission.
In May 2018, Donald received MCLE’s Annual Scholar-Mentor Award for his lifetime contributions to Family Law in Massachusetts. Donald graduated from Tufts University and received his JD and MSW degrees from Washington University in St. Louis.
