Gov. Deval L. Patrick has eased the fears of condominium owners by correcting a legislative error that would have resulted in higher taxes for condos had the provision not been corrected before 2010.
Over the summer, the Real Estate Bar Association and the Community Association Institute, a condominium organization, lobbied the Legislature and the governor to correct the mistake before the end of 2009 to prevent the measure from becoming law for the entire tax year, according to Diane R. Rubin, a partner in Prince Lobel’s real estate practice group.
“That was why we were so anxious to make sure we got this done this year,” she said. “Otherwise, we would have a retroactive period that could cause problems.”
