Nearly 500 attorneys participated in the 12th annual “Walk to the Hill” in an effort to draw the Legislature’s attention to the shortage of civil legal aid for low-income individuals in Massachusetts.
The state’s legal aid budget was cut three years ago and has remained at that level despite an increase in legal aid needs and significant losses in Interest on Lawyers Trust Account (IOLTA) income and other sources of funding.
This annual event calls attention to the need to urge lawmakers to support a program that connects low-income Massachusetts residents to civil legal support.
