Prince Lobel is pleased to announce that Peter F. McLaughlin has joined the firm as a partner and co-chair of the firm’s Data Privacy and Security practice group.

In welcoming Peter to the firm, the Chair of Prince Lobel’s Data Privacy and Security Practice, Bill Rogers, stated, “Peter McLaughlin comes to Prince Lobel as a recognized authority and industry lecturer in domestic and international Privacy and Security legal compliance.  Peter brings us his very significant and diverse client base and his specialized knowledge and experience in life sciences, healthcare, fintech, and general cybersecurity.  At a time when our Privacy practice has been growing at every level, Peter’s nearly 30 years of combined in-house and private practice experience make him uniquely qualified to join me as Co-Chair of our practice in 2021.”

Peter is a seasoned privacy and data security attorney who advises clients with respect to a broad range of technology transactions, privacy, and cybersecurity issues.

Peter’s practice focuses on innovative uses of data, especially with the life sciences and digital health sectors. He guides clients in their domestic and international handling of personal information; new product development; and the assessment of legally defensible cybersecurity programs. The Legal 500 has recognized Peter’s work in the area of data protection and privacy as “extremely knowledgeable, competent and professional.”

Peter spent time in-house at a global Silicon Valley technology company and as Assistant General Counsel and global privacy officer for a multinational health firm. He has represented clients across industry sectors with respect to governing personal information; responding to regulators from the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and state attorneys general; and supporting post-enforcement compliance obligations.

Peter regularly speaks at events sponsored by the American Bar Association, the Practicing Law Institute, the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the International Technology Law Association, HIMSS, the Boston Bar Association, and RSA, among others.

Peter holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a J.D. from Georgetown University School of Law.
