Christopher Hanba is a partner in the Intellectual Property practice group in the firm’s Austin office. Chris’s practice focuses on intellectual property with a particular emphasis on patent litigation.

Christopher Hanba is a trial lawyer for patent, trade secret, trademark and other intellectual property cases. He has appeared in over 120 cases, securing notable wins and settlements in the Federal Courts throughout the United States.

Chris has been recognized as a leading patent professional by IAM Patent 1000. Chris has also been recognized by Chambers USA as a leader in Intellectual Property, noting that “Chris is strategic-minded and has a library of knowledge on patent litigation. While commercially savvy, he also prioritizes the client’s interests.”

Chris serves as lead counsel in high-stakes patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation, with a strong track record before Federal Courts and the International Trade Commission. He has significant experience representing start-ups and emerging companies, particularly those based in the United States and East Asia, helping them navigate complex intellectual property disputes with strategic precision and practical insight.

Chris maintains a robust practice representing clients across East Asia, with a particular focus on Taiwan. He recently secured a favorable jury verdict for a Taiwanese semiconductor company in a high-profile U.S. patent litigation. Chris is also an active speaker in Taiwan on intellectual property issues and has been quoted frequently in Taiwanese media for his insights on cross-border litigation strategy.

Chris brings a unique perspective to his legal practice, drawing on his background in software consulting to provide strategic and technically sophisticated counsel to clients. He has extensive experience managing complex matters across a broad range of technologies, including software, network security, cellular communications, semiconductors, microprocessors, artificial intelligence, DRAM and NAND flash memory architecture, computer and network systems, mobile devices, biotechnology, digital imaging, internet-based platforms, medical devices, automotive systems, sensor technologies, and software-driven medical infrastructure.

Chris earned his J.D. from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law and his B.B.A. from the University of Michigan.
