The 2016 NENPA Winter Conference addressed the topic of when, or whether, to “un-publish” a news item during its workshop on Friday, February 19th. Our Media and First Amendment partner, Rob Bertsche, was featured on the panel, joining Lisa McGinley, deputy managing editor and city editor for The Day of New London, Conn.; and Jeff Potter, editor of The Commons of Brattleboro, Vt.
Rob included a hypothetical situation during his presentation about an 18-year-old arrested for possession of marijuana. Although the conviction was overturned, the teen’s name will always be brought up in a search to the original arrest and charge.
