• A class action suit claiming millions of dollars in damages was filed against the owners and operator of numerous assisted living facilities in Massachusetts. The claims involved both the landlord tenant law and the laws controlling the operation of the facilities. Lou represented the owners and successfully defeated the motion, which resulted in a fast settlement. This also helped the client to avoid considerable litigation fees.
• Lou successfully defended a client that started a new business spanning the nation when they were sued by a competitor claiming trade secret theft and breach of numerous employment contracts. Lou and his colleagues’ strong defense led to a speedy and favorable resolution.

Intellectual Property

• Handled an intellectual property case for a software company in which a large corporation infringed on their copyright. The case settled for millions of dollars right before trial after a fierce defense of the suit.
• Represented a national software company declaring millions of dollars in damages against a licensee for copyright infringement and license agreement breach
• Defended a multi-billion-dollar contractor claiming theft of trade secrets stemming from the design of advanced military vehicles
• Represented numerous clients sued for trademark infringement in the U.S. District Court of California

General Litigation

• Represented a large defense contractor that was sued in U.S. District Court. The sub-contractor falsely accused the client of misappropriating trade secrets. After multiple days of trial, the plaintiff settled on terms that were a fraction of the amount originally demanded.
• Defended a large political party in Massachusetts against claims from supposed malfeasance in the nomination for an elected office
• Represented numerous privately-held businesses in litigation by reason of the founders disagreeing over the procedures and rights of ownership
• Represented a large, highly rated Boston hotel when they claimed millions of dollars of damages against a contractor

Corporate

• Represented an international engineering and environmental firm regarding a radiological refinement of a Nuclear Regulatory Commission-licensed site
• Represented an international power company in many matters in Massachusetts including all litigation and commercial matters
• Lou represented a large financial services firm. For more than 20 years, he handled all of the client’s Massachusetts securities litigation.
